Elizabeth Sloane is one of the best lobbyists in DC. She decides to join an organisation which is taking on the gun lobby, and trying to bring in a gun control law.

And, there, she just stepped into the shittiest part of the shit-hole that lobbying is. The closer she gets to her target, the more perturbed the gun lobby gets, willing to go to any extent to destroy her - ready to exploit any personal or professional secrets for the cause.
